• About Bruce

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.

My boss asked me this morning what I did this weekend, and I responded with a “not much”, because thinking about big activities, I didn’t really do much over the weekend. I watched a Lobo basketball game. I cleaned out the litter box. I ran a circuit with Thorson on the Loop. I paid...

    Positive Christianity

    by  •  • GraceThoughts • 0 Comments

I’ve had several good conversations with a work colleague this week about Christianity, and how it should impact a life. These conversations grew out of some reflections I had talking with a friend and also from considering the experiences shared by others I have known that felt similarly: Christianity is negative. The key complaint...

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” ~ Luke 15:20 It’s been a good day, but my mind has wandered all over within it.  I’ve thought about the...

Yesterday was a good day.   It was the first day I felt peace about doing this sabbatical thingy, and it was the first day I felt like I did it mostly right. I got up later in the morning, free from obligations, and while my friends collected at church, I was able to slowly...

How to Have Something to Say

    by  •  • LifeHelps • 0 Comments

I, like many other people, find at times that I am at a loss on how to have something to say. I write this post today mostly for myself, because I need to hear it repeatedly, but I thought that it might be helpful for one or two of you as well. The mechanics...

    Austerity January

“The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.” ― C.G. Jung It is already Saturday, January 4th, and I recognize it has been a chunk of time since I’ve posted anything here. Part of the reason for the gap has been an on-going lack of clarity about what to write when sitting down...

Thanksgiving morning. Today is a special, festive day, no doubt. In 3 hours or so, the family will be gathered at my folk’s house, and the smell of turkey and dressing and pumpkin pies and gravy will fill every room. The low clamor of multiple conversations will amble until food is brought to the...

Today’s been one of those days so far. A Monday after a rare cold and snowy weekend in Albuquerque, I thought I felt rested and fired up for a good work day today. I knew I was coming to work with a few clear items I needed to hammer out- and I thought I...

Wednesday evening, November 13. It is the middle of the evening on the day in the middle of the week in the middle of November. And it feels like it. I am looking forward to December. I am planning a hiatus. I am planning a social sabbatical. By God’s grace, I am hoping to...

    My Chinese Naps

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 1 Comment

About three months ago, a friend of mine approached me after small group, telling me she went to see an acupuncturist who had helped her a lot with some frustrating symptoms.  She had heard me mention several times in prior meetings how I had been having some stomach problems that came and left my...

Tonight after work, I was grateful to get a little quiet time at a new coffee place that opened recently just up the street from work. The Brew opened sometime in the last month, and I ended up stumbling upon it by accident about two or so weeks ago. Out for a walk, I...

    Ramblings | Praying for Purpose

    by  •  • Dear Diary • 0 Comments

It has nagged me all of my life, this question, and for whatever reasons, the answer has continued to evade me.  Yes, perhaps because of my fears, or because of my simple thinking, or because of my predilection to pursue pleasure.  But as one ages, the question does not trail off and simply disappear. ...

    Alberto and Albuquerque

    by  •  • Dear Diary • 2 Comments

Alberto is an older Hispanic gentleman I met a few months ago at our church. Gray-haired and slightly stooped, Alberto switches from large-rimmed reading glasses to giant-framed blackout sunglasses, depending on where he is in the sun or in the building. He is clearly not wealthy, but when he talks, you can hear he...
