• About Bruce

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.

When Morris Safford left the convenience store, it was drizzling steadily. He, for some reason, wore only a windbreaker over his thin cotton shirt and a pair of khaki slacks that day. His socks were thick to cushion his poorly-circulating feet, but they were soaking in the wet droplets striking his ankles where the...

    Bird Walk in the Bosque

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

I enjoyed a nice adventure this morning by joining an Albuquerque photography Meetup group at the Rio Grande Nature Center. We met at the Visitor’s Center parking lot this morning, and then were guided by a staff member on a loop walk north and then south in the Rio Grande Bosque. The main interest...

    Warped Wall

From my afternoon walkabout, messing with manual mode and the light meter. It was the best thing I shot. There is a wooden wall around a residential property near work that is painted like this.

    I Saw The Light (Meter)

It was a good day at work: quiet, slow progress made on projects. My eating has slipped a little the last two days- sugar has found me a few times more than it should have, including in a raspberry mocha today- but that’s okay. I did have a talk with Tim this afternoon that...

    Super Blue Blood Moon

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

I got up at 4AM this morning to try and get outside before the super moon started eclipsing and then blood mooning after that. Last night, I laid out everything I thought I needed for the morning on the table in the living room: the camera bag, a portable chair, a tripod, headlamp, mittens,...

    Shoot for the Moon

It’s almost 10, but I am going to try it. I’ll try to get up and get some photos of the super blue blood moon in the early morning. The camera bag is laid out, and a camping chair, and a headlamp, and a coat. My camera does not have the most powerful lens...

    The Discomfort of Discipleship

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

It is a recurring call, the coaxing of Christ, to constantly forget your follies and to leave yourself for the welfare of those around you. The kingdom of heaven exists on the currency of love alone- a love which is open-handed, unconditional, and which is focused not on the giver, but on the receiver....

    Second Christmasies

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

It wasn’t a second Christmas celebration actually, but kind of, because today, after we had recently finished off the last of the batch of Christmas-only cookies we had made at the beginning of this month, we had the novel idea of making a few more. So this afternoon I went over to my folks,...

    A Good Day

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

It was a good full day today. I got up at a good hour and spent a few more of those at Flying Star, posing as a writer, but really mostly watching some old training videos from back in the 1940’s on how to preflight and start up a B-17. Why? I started a...

    Gratitude

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

Note to Self: Learn to say “Thank You” more. In words. On notes and cards. In posts. On phone calls. Gratitude lifts the eyes and the heart upward and outward. It reinforces happiness, or sparks it if it lacks. It constructs contentment, and celebrates one’s fortunes, not lingering upon deficits. And it reminds us...

    William

Tonight my sister kidnapped my mom and took her off downtown for a movie in a museum theater. My dad had a quandary- he could just sit at home and enjoy watching an old movie, or he could meet me for dinner. The salad and bread sticks appeared to win the day. I met...

    The Muses Sleep

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

I came into this year with a feeling of urgency, with a need to be, as I felt it, proactive about love and craft. I would change my daily patterns and alter my life course. I would dredge up love and write madly, if only to force my muse to stay by me. Three...

    Trying, Winning, and Bargaining

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

I tried to eat really clean today. I did well- a protein shake and an apple for breakfast, some goulash for lunch, carrots and hummus for an afternoon snack, mixed vegetables for dinner. But then there was a box of caramel popcorn left from game group last night that was unfinished. If it is...

    The Margin

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

It was gray and cold this morning when I rolled out of bed. The Sandias were crowned with clouds that buried the slopes underneath in shadow. It was an ideal day to shut down, and I did for a while. I had purchased ingredients for some goulash, though, and that was my best prospect...

    Percolation

It’s the evening after the evening I watched Wonder Woman. It’s Saturday, and I did not creative write today. I just read instead. Tonight, the Lobo men hoops team, depleted of talent after a sizable exodus of players last year, and picked to finish ninth (of eleven teams) in conference play, had a second...
