• About Bruce

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.

After a quick trip to Kansas last weekend to partake of the annual autumn Arkalalah Festival and to celebrate an aunt’s milestone birthday, I came back with a cold. I muddled through Monday. I coughed through the work day today. Still, caught in my constant war to try and figure out how to use...

    Weekend Recap: October 19-20, 2019

I’ve not been writing much for the last half a year, largely because I have just had a hard time thinking I had anything to write. Well, they say when you can’t think of much to write, write anyways, so this is a leap in that direction. This last weekend was deeply enjoyable for...

SOTD: “Homecoming Queen” By Kelsea Ballerini

    by  •  • SOTD • 1 Comment

Been a while since I posted anything, but I came across this song, and its lyrics tackled me- to the point I might have shed a tear or two. Particularly bruised was the old compliant part of my heart that, forever wearing the “good kid” mask, has otherwise long struggled to find a place...

    Shame, Revisited

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

Earlier this month, I picked up two books related to the topic of shame (see previous post), and I started reading the more psychological of the two right away (“The Soul of Shame” by Curt Thompson). Three weeks later, and I finally finished reading my fourth book of the year. Thompson’s book was a...

Last week, Tom Terry, an acquaintance of mine from back in my KLYT radio days and a Campus Crusade (Cru) guy, posted the title of a book he had started reading. Tom is a solid theology guy, and though I do not usually react to things he posts online, his book title caught my...

Day Trip: Chimayo and Santa Cruz

    by  •  • Roadies • 1 Comment

I had an opportunity this past Saturday to join my friend Tammie and some of her family for the closing activities for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe’s “Pilgrimage for Vocations” week up in Chimayo. Tammie has a daughter that participated in the week’s event, and for me, it provided me with an opportunity to...

Twenty five years ago, I and my middle school chum Glenn began our European jaunt with a short sail crossing a sea. With today being the 75th anniversary of the Normandy invasion in WWII, I figured it was as good as anything to post what I was doing over there 25 years ago. “We...

    The Ends

While trying to come up with a meaningful topic for the morning, I spent a while online tracking my friend Ben finishing the Charlottesville Marathon. Several miles from the finish line, he was being paced by the women’s leader of the race, and he was slowly creeping closer to her. It was good drama,...

    Dawn Dream

This morning I dreamed I went back to the seminary I attended to tour its campus and when I went I took my pet beagle with me and while I was in a building there my dog got away from me and disappeared and I panicked and ran room by room through the building...

    Walk

    by  •  • LifeStuff • 0 Comments

I came home tonight from work tonight feeling much like I have many evenings recently. Listless. Unfocused. Anxious. Frustrated. Tired. Isolated. Stuck. The natural answer to the symptoms at the moment was to just go out and walk. So I went out and walked for an hour. It was good to just move randomly...

When He is your Father And you come to a goodbye, Lift your soul to Him And say, “Thank you.” If you feel separation and grief, Lift your eyes to Him And say “Thank you”. If you feel warmth and tenderness, Lift your arms to Him And say “Thank you”. If you feel bruised...

    Ride the Steadfast Sun

Why do you yell? Why do you rant and rave? Your cause of concern will pop like a bubble in time, a soon passing thing, like any thing, like all things- this too shall pass, this too shall pass, this too shall pass. Justice is inexact. Your hunger for it will not be quenched,...

Day Trip: Willard, Pack’s, and Gran Quivira, NM

    by  •  • Roadies • 2 Comments

I went to bed last night itching to go somewhere this morning. With reports of possible snow in eastern Arizona, I heavily considered going to Canyon de Chelly near Chinle. After all, in fine weather, it is just a three and a half hour drive from Albuquerque. But then the alarm clock went off...
