• POTD: Pond Perch

In lieu of watching the Super Bowl today, I opted to take advantage of near 70-degree spring-like weather, and I headed down past Socorro to Bosque del Apache to visit whatever critters might be there. And it was a nice and quiet, gentle-sun-on-my-face slow-rollin’ kind of afternoon. I drove the south loop and then the north loop, stopping at populated ponds to visit the birds. I tried several times to photograph hawks in flight, each one failing. It’s okay. Those sure are pretty birds. After fighting with my cameras to try and get some workable settings, I saw a blue heron, several deer, several murmurings, many many snow geese, some cranes here and there, and the aforementioned hawks. At sunset, I ended up at the main North Pond where this trunk in the pond is a popular avian roost. I then ate my packed salad dinner on a picnic table at the empty visitor center area and watched the sky darken before I submitted and hit the road to come back home. Bosque del Apache is always lovely to visit, at any time of the year.

    About

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.
