Despite the remarkable beauty that surrounds us in nature, there is always the reminder that within it itself is cruelty, and misfortune.

This afternoon I was enjoying the sparrows that frequent the bird feeder in my backyard, and this one fluttered in for a meal. From the looks of it (and judging by its size), it appeared to do okay scooping seed up with its mandible (lower jaw), but from what I could tell, it did not have an upper jaw (or maxilla), which left my a bit stymied, and sad. One wonders what happened to this guy, to leave it with half a beak somehow.

Eat on, bird. Eat on, and live on.

    About

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.
