• Afternoon Outing: Ojita Wilderness

I’ve been dealing with some physical issues this week, and so this morning, after a very slow start to the day, I decided I needed to get out for the afternoon. For some reason, my mind jumped immediately to revisiting the Hoodoo Trail in the Ojita Wilderness.

    Crusty

Several years ago, I parked at the lot that accesses that trail, and for whatever reason, I never actually found the Hoodoo Trail then, and found myself climbing up on a bluff instead.

    Go figure.

Today, I left around noon, and after filling up, I was out at San Ysidro by 1:15, and driving back into the Wilderness shortly after that.

Today, the sky was pretty clear and blue, washed a little with winter light.

    Go Right

I made it to the Hoodoo Trail lot again, and this time, because there were 8 vehicles in it and voices could be heard up the trail, I found the real trail this times and I took my time walking it.

    A Hoodooplex

In a short while, I found hoodoos! Not many, but enough to make the visit worth it. And I continued walking past the first hoodooplex and rounded the bluff to see the trail reach far back west over a long open valley.

    How Do Hoodoo?

I walked it for another 20 or 30 minutes, taking pictures of light contrasts around me, and then it was nearing 4 PM, and I needed to turn around to be back on 550 at dusk.

But, as is the case, golden hour light and the falling sun slowed my exit from the area.

    Last Call

I was tired this evening as I lounged and watched an NBA game with my folks. But the afternoon out was great for me.

    About

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.
