The Practical Pulpit

One day he preached a sermon,
and then the next he looked at his life,
and he realized
the only lecture he ever wanted to again offer
needed to be spoken
in the clarity of his actions,
in the honesty of his transactions,
in the gracefulness of his interactions,
in the gentleness of his reactions,
and in the humility of his redactions,
which would each show
in his actions
what he had
always wanted to say.
And he knew
he had to change
to become the man
he could
listen to
again
in the pulpit-
a man
who would know
and who would show
before he would
finally say.
