It was a pretty good day today. I ate fairly cleanly for once, not diving into the candy store at work in mid-afternoon. I ate my breakfast at home before I left for work. Greg next door at Cafe Espresso gifted me a carne burrito this morning, so I ate it for lunch. And I didn’t snack after eating that.

I learned I hit 230 pounds this weekend.

That’s the most I’ve ever weighed.

It’s apparent when I bend forward to tie my shoes in the morning. Other people may not see it, but I do.

After work, I decided it was nice enough out to try and force this body into some cardio work, so i went over to the the track at La Cueva High School to see what I could do.

When I go there, the clouds were hanging low in patches about the sky, like cotton candy. The sun was behind a bank which was porous, and rays shot through the gray in the west. A La Cueva girl’s softball stint was going on in the ballpark below the track. The air was cool and the immediate area was quiet. You could hear the tennis players volleying on the court to the south, and an occasional smattering of claps from the softball fans.

I jogged a mile. I felt like I was going to fall over at the end of that.

I walked a lap and let my hear settle down.

I then jogged another lap and a half, and then picked it up for 800 meters or so, finishing lap 7.

While my heart thump and I breathed heavily, I walked lap 8, and took in the funky sky and the green grass on the field below and the yellow on the mountains behind the school building- the school where Bryce Alford played his high school basketball.

I came home and made stir-fried veges and some rice, and then I saw it was 7 so I turned on Dancing with the Stars so I could see Mr. David Ross, freshly retired from the World Champion Cubs, do his thing on the dance floor. He came late in the show, but as I watched the show, I was reminded how much I really like dancing- for the music, and the movement, and the beauty buried in it.

David came on with his fantastic coach and partner Lindsay Arnold for a baseball diamond themed dance to- of all things- the Cubs victory song, “Go Cubs Go”. And they pulled it off. It wasn’t perfect, but it was fun and energetic.

And inside, I bubbled over with deep joy. As if he was my uncle. My brother. My buddy.

Well, he is one of the 2016 World Series crew.

    Like family.

I love my Cubs, these current Cubs, which pulled me close back to baseball and rewarded their loyal fans- Grandpa Rossy and Rizzo and Bryant and Addie and Zobrist and Hendricks and Lester and Arrieta and Baez and Schwarber and Keyward an Lester, and even old Lackey. But everyone loves Rossy.

The dance show tonight made me happy.

    The Cubs make me happy.

    Funky skies make me happy.

    I weigh 230. Eeek.

    March Madness.

    About

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.
