Today was a pretty decent day, although the middle of it was less constructive than I hoped it would be. Oh well.
It started with a loop around the Loop with my jogging buddy, Kurt. With a month of lay off from getting out there, we had a decent time for covering the corse. I felt like I was going to collapse running up the hill section, I was so tired. We were pleased to be done with that deal.
After that, I attended a coach’s meeting at Eastern Hills for Upwards at 9 am until 11.
The day’s highlight was spending lunch with a cherished friend, Steve Spriggs, and his wife Keri, both of whom I haven’t seen in probably 3 years because they moved up to Colorado Springs. When I first moved back to New Mexico from Chicago in 2002-ish, I reconnected with Steve, a friend from high school days, and he and Keri took me into their lives pretty deeply as I was recovering from the wounds of a failed marriage and a broken life. Steve and I threw a lot of baseballs to each other in front of his house as we talked over a few years of hanging and bonding. Steve and Keri also kept a standing appointment to watch the TV show “Ed” with me each week when it was out, along with movie nights. They were a comfort to me when I came back home to Albuquerque broken and full of shame. It was a treat to catch up with them today at Dos Hermanos for lunch. They are great people.
Following lunch, I came home and was simply tired. I napped for a few hours, broken by time spent finishing watching a movie I had started a few days ago.
My dancing buddy Sally texted me about going dancing for a while tonight around 4, and frustrated with my sense of lethargy today, I thought it was a good idea, so she and went dancing from 8 to 10. It was good to just get out tonight.
Last night was a Thanksgiving dinner potluck for leadership people at Sagebrush Highland, so I made a large tray of dressing to take to the meal the night before. I took it last night, and there was so much dressing, it became reserves. And then was not even touched. My first tray of stuffing, uneaten. Still, the evening was fun and relaxing.
The highlight of the week was attending a recital at my brother’s house for his two daughters on Thursday evening. It was a great little event, and both of the girls did very well presenting their first little concerts at the piano. My brother and his family are moving to Wisconsin in January, and the reality is settling in. I will be sad to see them go- especially his kids, I must say. I kind of hoped to see them grow up up close.
