I didn’t sleep well last night, but I got up early and spent some time in the Word. I realize daily how important that time is with God, and yet for some reason, I don’t give it enough weight in my life. Well, I read in Numbers 5 and 6, and was touched by two things. In chapter 5, Moses writes about the Nazirites, who dedicated themselves to God for a term by not shaving and not eating or drinking anything having to do with grapes. The prior chapters were on the Levites, and how God wanted them to be dedicated to Him. The point of yesterday and today’s readings, for me, was that God wants our firsts. From our first fruits to our first children, God wants to know that we will give our first things to Him. God wants us to lay in front of Him everything that we put before Him in our lives, and He wants us to make Him priority one.
Well, today went on. Work was good. I had a great lunch with my good friend Jenise, who is always wise. I went to dance this evening with the dance club. I came home, and just sat and thought about the day. And then in my Twitter feed, I chanced across a new video online featuring Kathy Ireland. In the last few years, I’ve come to realize Kathy is a tremendous business woman. I’ve also discovered through her tweets that she is warm and empathetic and sympathetic to people who ping her. Well, tonight I learned another great thing about her.
Kathy Ireland is second.
And in her video, she reaffirmed to me God’s message to me from this morning. God asks you and I to make Him first. And He will take care of us.
The second thing I got from Numbers this morning was the following blessing, which I never realized was in Numbers 6:
The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
‘The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.'”~ Numbers 6:22-26
A great way to end today, heading to bed with that thought.
Be first in my life, Oh Lord. Be first.
