If you are, like the rest of us, trying to watch your cash and figure out how to cut your expenses, Erin Burt, Contributing Editor at Kiplinger.com, wrote a great article on some of your money habits to audit.
I give you, in summary, Erin’s list of poor practices to avoid here.
- Carrying a balance on a credit card.
- Overspending on gas and oil.
- Keeping unhealthy habits.
- Paying for cell phone minutes you don’t use.
- Buying brand name instead of generic.
- Keep your mouth shut (on rates, prices, and discounts).
- Buying beverages one at a time.
- Paying for something you can get for free (Think MSOffice vs. OpenOffice).
- Giving Uncle Sam an interest-free loan (via planning for a tax refund).
- Being disorganized.
- Leaving your money in a low-interest account.
- Paying late fees and missing deadlines.
- Paying ATM fees.
- Grocery shopping without a calculator.
- Paying for things you don’t use.
- Not reading the fine print.
- Mismanaging your FSA.
- Being an inflexible traveler.
- Sticking with the same service providers year after year.
