The fruit of mining theological library book sales and used book stores in San Fran when I was in seminary, I have a few books on my shelves that are extra special to me.  There is something about these compact, hardbound volumes from the 50’s and 60’s that I love.  To me, they are just the right size for a book.  Their jacket art is simple.  And it doesn’t hurt that, to me, each of these books is, well, a really good book.

    The New Being

“The New Being” by Paul Tillich

    The Heart of Man

“The Heart of Man” by Erich Fromm

    Guilt & Grace

“Guilt & Grace” by Paul Tournier

    The Cost of Discipleship

“The Cost of Discipleship” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

    Act and Being

“Act and Being” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“Act and Being” actually took some time and effort to find.  At the time I was intent on coming up with a copy of it, it had not been widely published, and because of that, and Bonhoeffer’s significance to me, it is the crown jewel of my library.

    About

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.
