16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.

In this competitive and comparative world, it is easy to lose a right perspective about who we are and how valuable we really are in God’s economy.  With every website seemingly built around the cult of celebrity, screaming about who did what or got what, suggesting to us that who we are and what we do may not quite measure up to what the world holds as being successful or valuable, in Jesus’ coming to earth, God screamed to each one of us in his creation, “I made you, I am for you, and I want to give you what you need to live a joyful and meaningful life.”  Here in John 1, we are reminded that 1) God is full of grace, which is to say, God is full of favor- God loves bountifully what he has made, 2) God has grace for every one of us, which means, regardless of whether we recognize him or his favor or not, it is there,  3) God is proactive about blessing his creatures, in an ongoing way, because of who he is, and 4) all blessings are a product of God’s grace.  All goodness we experienece in life flows out of God’s favor for us.

God, thank you for being full of favor for us.  Help me to swim in that favor today.

    About

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.
